Humanity alert · automated 24-hour observatory

Measure the decline.Change the direction.

A composite signal combining psychological distress, lethal violence, information restrictions and child vulnerability, alongside a separate consumption-based carbon footprint — updated from five open data sources.

A diverse group facing a fractured globe as warning signals give way to a hopeful dawn.

Human values barometers

Four needles. One global warning.

The four needles form the social composite. Carbon is reported separately above because it uses a physical unit rather than the pressure-score scale.

An editorial illustration linking free information, collective safety, psychological wellbeing and child protection.

What the needles represent

Statistics are signals about real human lives.

Each needle translates one measurable pressure into a shared visual language. The score does not judge people or cultures; it highlights where protection, freedom and care may be under strain.

Method / transparency

A readable signal, not a verdict.

The score is an experimental index designed for comparative reading. It is neither a scientifically validated measure of “alienation,” nor evidence of causality, nor a moral ranking of populations. For multinational regions, the system calculates an equally weighted average of the latest available national data points and reports the resulting coverage.

Score = Normalized suicide × 0.30 + Normalized homicide × 0.30 + Censorship × 0.20 + Normalized child vulnerability × 0.20

Fixed normalization ceilings: 30 deaths per 100,000 = 100 for suicide and homicide; 30% = 100 for the child-vulnerability proxy; the V-Dem index (0–1, higher means freer) is inverted into a censorship proxy (0–100). Reference years may differ because each organization publishes on its own schedule.

The carbon footprint is annual consumption-based CO₂ per person. It adjusts territorial emissions for carbon embedded in imports and exports. It is displayed in tonnes per person and has a weight of 0% in the Humanity Alert Score while the environmental methodology is kept distinct from the four social-pressure dimensions.

Precautionary gauge bands: 0–9 Stable, 10–24 Fragile, 25–39 Concerning, 40–59 Critical and 60–100 Emergency. Composite-score bands use the same five-level logic at 0–14, 15–29, 30–44, 45–64 and 65–100. These bands affect interpretation and colour only; they never alter the collected observations or the published formula.

Impact / act on the signal

A warning is useful only if it leads to action.

Humanity Alert turns public indicators into a readable starting point. These independent organizations provide deeper evidence and practical ways to help.

A diverse team repairing a cracked compass-globe together, representing coordinated action and recovery.

The direction can change

Measurement is the beginning, not the mission.

Privacy & advertising policy

Transparency before monetization.

Humanity Alert is designed to collect as little personal information as practical. The following policy describes the current site, optional audience analytics and advertising features that activate only after approval and the required consent controls are in place.

Local dashboard data

The selected region, a timestamp and a 24-hour copy of public indicator data are stored in your browser. They are used to make the dashboard faster and are not used to identify you.

Contact, orders and payments

Netlify processes contact and report-order details so Humanity Alert can respond and fulfil requested services. PayPal separately processes Country Deep Dive purchases and voluntary support. Humanity Alert may receive transaction information needed to match an order, but never your full card or bank credentials.

Google Analytics

With your consent, Google Analytics measures visits, pages viewed and general traffic sources. Analytics storage is denied by default, and you can change your choice at any time through “Privacy choices”.
