Five observed series, four score dimensions
The public dashboard retrieves suicide mortality, intentional homicide, freedom of expression, children in employment and consumption-based CO₂ emissions per person. The first four form the Humanity Alert Score. Carbon remains visible as a separate physical measure and has no weight in the score.

The composite signal
Composite = 0.30 × wellbeing pressure + 0.30 × safety pressure + 0.20 × expression pressure + 0.20 × child-vulnerability pressure.
The bands are visual communication choices: Stable below 15; Fragile from 15 to below 30; Concerning from 30 to below 45; Critical from 45 to below 65; Emergency from 65.
The score is an experimental navigation aid. It is not a moral ranking, official statistic, diagnosis, policy prescription or proof of causality.
How the carbon footprint is defined
The carbon indicator uses annual consumption-based CO₂ emissions per person from the Global Carbon Budget via Our World in Data. Territorial emissions are adjusted by subtracting carbon embedded in exports and adding carbon embedded in imports. This is closer to the footprint of national consumption than territorial emissions alone.
The measure covers fossil fuels and industry. It excludes land-use change and does not allocate international aviation and shipping to individual countries. It is a national average—not an estimate of any visitor’s personal footprint—and coverage is unavailable for some economies.
Missing, stale and regional data
Missing data is never replaced by zero. The dashboard shows the latest available year for every series. For multinational regions it uses an equally weighted average of available national observations and reports coverage. The World entry uses the official aggregate when supplied by the source.
Update cycle
The browser checks five public endpoints at most once every 24 hours and caches the latest successful response locally. A successful check does not mean every underlying publisher released a new reference year.
Reproducibility
Each indicator page names the source, unit, transformation and limitations. Raw carbon values are shown in tonnes per person and are never silently converted into the Humanity Alert Score.
