Method / transparency
A readable signal, not a verdict.
The score is an experimental index designed for comparative reading. It is neither a scientifically validated measure of “alienation,” nor evidence of causality, nor a moral ranking of populations. For multinational regions, the system calculates an equally weighted average of the latest available national data points and reports the resulting coverage.
Score = Normalized suicide × 0.30 + Normalized homicide × 0.30 + Censorship × 0.20 + Normalized child vulnerability × 0.20
Fixed normalization ceilings: 30 deaths per 100,000 = 100 for suicide and homicide; 30% = 100 for the child-vulnerability proxy; the V-Dem index (0–1, higher means freer) is inverted into a censorship proxy (0–100). Reference years may differ because each organization publishes on its own schedule.
Precautionary gauge bands: 0–9 Stable, 10–24 Fragile, 25–39 Concerning, 40–59 Critical and 60–100 Emergency. Composite-score bands use the same five-level logic at 0–14, 15–29, 30–44, 45–64 and 65–100. These bands affect interpretation and colour only; they never alter the collected observations or the published formula.

The selected region, a timestamp and a 24-hour copy of public indicator data are stored in your browser. They are used to make the dashboard faster and are not used to identify you.

Netlify processes contact-form details so Humanity Alert can answer your request. PayPal separately processes voluntary support payments; Humanity Alert does not receive your card or bank credentials.
