Latest source-dated evidence
These values are embedded in the page so readers and search engines can see the evidence without waiting for JavaScript. The live dashboard may retrieve a newer observation; the year beside each value remains authoritative.
What the available evidence suggests
The suicide rate is higher than the homicide rate, but the two outcomes have different causes and data systems. The expression pressure value reflects an expert-coded index. The child-labour value comes from a joint global estimate rather than the sparse World Bank country series.
The most important limitation
A world aggregate can hide the widest possible variation. It describes no individual country and should never be used to infer a universal experience.
Global figures do not all share a definition
The global child-labour figure of 7.8% is an ILO–UNICEF estimate for 2024. The country-level indicator linked elsewhere on this site concerns children in employment aged 7–14. Different age ranges and definitions mean the global percentage is context, not a value that can fill missing national observations in that series.
The snapshot also combines suicide data for 2021, homicide for 2023, child labour and carbon for 2024, and expression for 2025. It should not be described as a measurement of the world in 2026 simply because the article was published then. A useful global update explains which observation changed and why; refreshing the page date is not a new measurement.
Interpretation added 13 September 2026 using the dated snapshot above and, where named, the linked country profiles. Calculations are illustrative comparisons of those published values; underlying observations have not been refreshed in this edit.
How to read this profile
- Compare values only when units and definitions match.
- Keep the observation year beside every claim.
- Treat expert-coded expression data differently from administrative death statistics.
- Read consumption-based carbon in its original physical unit, independently of the other indicators.
- Never convert missing data into zero.

| Signal | Source | Interpretation boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Suicide mortality | WHO via World Bank | Modelled population rate; reporting quality varies |
| Intentional homicide | UNODC via World Bank | Reported criminal homicide; coverage varies |
| Expression pressure | V-Dem via OWID | Expert-coded index transformed as (1 − value) × 100 |
| Child labour | ILO and UNICEF | Global and regional estimates cannot fill every country gap |
| Consumption CO₂ | Global Carbon Budget via OWID | Tonnes per person; interpreted separately |
